WORKSHOP AND RESIDENCIES

Matter of Stuff Workshop and Residencies engage the worlds of craft, art, and design. This experience helps creatives and artisans to discover each other, build meaningful relationships and exchange ideas while creating exquisite and unique designs. There is a wealth of knowledge, craftsmanship and technology available in Italy; Matter of Stuff unites international designers’ ideas with Italian Artisans’s expertise in any conceivable material and project.

One hand feeds the other and the synergy between the two creates objects with many stories to tell. The thinking and the making of a product can communicate what is beyond its materials and form.

Matter of Stuff collaborates with artists and designers from all over the world, partnering them with our manufacturers to create collaborations between the two worlds and to create functional objects and interior spaces for everyday living.

Matter of Stuff applies this philosophy to all collaborations, inviting clients and designers to visit the places where the materials are sourced and where they are shaped to become the final design.

Check our event page for more information on the next workshops or residencies taking place!

Every year Matter of Stuff organises week-long workshops at OCRA in Montalcino, Italy. The workshops focus on craft and technical know-how of Italian artisans where residents use a specific material to create an object in collaboration with specialised craftspeople . Every workshop is a unique hands-on experience where residents learn the processes and techniques best suited to a specific material such as marble or glass, and have the opportunity to work closely with expert makers and manufacturer.

The workshops give participants the chance to gain the practical skills required to communicate and work closely with artisans. At the end of the week designers are able to understand all the implications of making a design achievable in marble or glass.
